FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jackson, MS—A Florence man is going to prison for 25 years for possession of child porn, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Dwight Brinson, 49, of Florence was sentenced by Judge William Chapman III in Rankin County Circuit Court today after entering an open plea of guilty (meaning he refused the state’s recommendation and threw himself on the mercy of the court) to three counts possession of child porn.  Judge Chapman sentenced Brinson to 40 years, 25 to serve, as well as five years of post-release supervision.  He must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

“This sentence is a clear message that such perverted crimes will be dealt with severely in Mississippi,” said Attorney General Hood. “We thank Judge Chapman for handing down such a strong sentence and we appreciate the hard work of local law enforcement agencies, like Florence and Richland police departments, to track down these law breakers and bring them to justice.”

In this case, Brinson was found to be in possession of numerous videos and images of child pornography.

The case was investigated by the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Unit with assistance of the Richland and Florence Police Departments ,both members of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  Prosecution was handled by Special Assistant Attorneys General Brandon Ogburn and Tina Herron.
